What we collect

IP address — auto-detected on visit. Used to identify your pins, prevent spam, and enforce bans. Never displayed publicly.
Email — required when you drop a seeker pin or list a flat. Shared with users whose pins match yours (see "How matching shares your contact" below). Never displayed on the map, never sold, never given to advertisers or third parties outside matches.
Phone number — required when you drop a seeker pin or list a flat. Same handling as email — shared only in match emails, never shown on the map, never sold.
Location — the coordinates you place on the map. Rounded to ~100m in API responses.
Rent details & preferences — BHK, rent, furnishing, one-liners, seeker preferences. Displayed publicly (except email & phone).
Ratings & reports — linked to your IP for deduplication.

How matching shares your contact

When you drop a seeker pin or list a flat, our matching pipeline periodically compares your pin against others within a 2 km radius that are compatible on budget, BHK, and (for room listings) gender, smoking, and food preferences.

When a match is found, both sides receive a single email that contains each other's email address and phone number. This is the only way the matching feature can work — without contact sharing, there is no way for a matched pair to reach each other.

Contact details are never displayed on the map. They only appear in match emails delivered to people whose pins actually passed the match criteria. If you don't want your contact shared with anyone, delete your pin — we only share while your pin is active.

Match emails are cc'd to the bengaluru.rent team for quality and abuse review. We do not use your contact info for anything else, and we never share it with brokers, advertisers, or third parties.

Third-party services

Google Maps — map tiles and place search. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
Supabase — database hosting (AWS). Subject to Supabase's privacy policy.
ipify.org — IP address lookup on page load.
Copernicus/ESA — satellite imagery for Green Cover. No user data sent.

Data retention

Rent pins — kept until you delete them or they receive 3+ reports.
Seeker pins — auto-expire after 30 days.
IP addresses — retained for abuse prevention.
Email & phone — kept until you request deletion or your pin is removed. Once a match email is sent, the recipient may keep your contact — we can't recall it.

Your rights

Delete your own pins anytime (tap your pin, then delete).
Request deletion of all your data by emailing hi@bengaluru.rent.
We never sell, trade, or share your personal data.

Security

All data transmitted over HTTPS. API rate limiting and coordinate rounding protect against scraping. Emails are protected by database security policies. No passwords, no accounts, no cookies.

We may update this policy. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
